In a groundbreaking initiative funded by Horizon Europe, Amsterdam UMC is spearheading a global consortium aimed at tackling the escalating rates of chronic diseases in low- and middle-income countries.
Led by Professor Charles Agyemang, the consortium’s focus is on developing targeted interventions, particularly for individuals aged 10 to 24, who are often overlooked in current policies. With partners spanning France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Ghana, the initiative adopts a multi-faceted approach, targeting multiple risk factors across various settings including secondary schools, family/faith-based settings, and social media platforms.
Emphasizing collaboration and stakeholder engagement, the project aims to drive lasting behavioral changes and promote healthier lifestyles, ultimately combating the growing epidemic of chronic diseases in vulnerable populations. Stay tuned for updates on this transformative global effort.
