The Amsterdam Public Health research institute stimulates state-of-the-art research that contributes to the ever-growing health potential of individuals and communities across the life course. The institute concentrates its research efforts in nine research programs in which 1,700+ researchers from multidisciplinary disciplines are brought together. IRD (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) is an internationally recognised multidisciplinary institute of >2000 researchers and technicians, working mainly in partnership with countries in the Global South. IRD operates under the joint authority of the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Founded in 1944, the Institute celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2024.

IRD sets its research priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. IRD seeks to tackle the challenges facing us today through equitable scientific partnership with countries of the Global South: health, environmental, economic, social and cultural changes that affect the whole planet.

The IRD team in Generation H is based in the Montpellier Interdisciplinary centre on Sustainable Agri-food systems (MoiSA).

African Population and Health Research Center

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading research institution based in Nairobi, Kenya, with a West Africa Regional Office in Dakar, Senegal. Renowned for its rigorous research and influence, APHRC focuses on population health and wellbeing in sub-Saharan Africa. Recognized with the 2015 UN Population Award, it consistently ranks as the top African think tank on domestic health policy. Aligned with Agenda 2063, APHRC addresses priority areas such as human capital development, urbanization, and health. Through these four themes, including Chronic Diseases Management, APHRC conducts observational and intervention research to inform policies and practices. Their work involves mobile technology interventions and policy engagement to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with senior staffs who actively participate in NCD technical working groups, positioning APHRC at the forefront of influencing NCD prevention and care strategies.

Sciensano connects health, science and society and can count on more than 900 staff members who are committed to human and animal health every day.

As our name suggests, science and health are central to our mission. Sciensano’s strength and uniqueness lie within the holistic and multidisciplinary approach to health. More particularly we focus on the close and indissoluble interconnection between human and animal health and their environment (the “One health” concept). By combining different research perspectives within this framework, Sciensano contributes in its unique way to everybody’s health.

For this, Sciensano builds on the more than 100 years of scientific expertise of the former Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre (CODA-CERVA) and the ex-Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP).

The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) 

The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) brings together major international research funding agencies specifically to address the growing burden of NCDs in LMICs and in underserved groups experiencing health disparities such as Indigenous Populations, in high-income countries by building evidence to inform national and international NCD policies and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals under section 3.4.

The GACD:

  • Invests in impactful NCD implementation research;
  • Builds implementation science capacity and capability in relation to NCDs;
  • Facilitates collaborations and partnerships to support GACD investment and impact

 

GACD’s mission is to reduce the burden of chronic NCDs in LMICs, and in populations facing conditions of vulnerability in high-income countries, by building evidence to inform national and international NCD policies and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
